Warning: this review will include spoilers, so if you want all of the hype gone, go ahead.
Yeah, I've tried the excitable, well-renowned website Pottermore after waiting two long weeks for the email.
During those two weeks, I thought in anticipation about many things. Things like which house I would be in, the saucy bonus information, wandlore, and learning about spells and potions.
Finally, I have been admitted through the coal-black gates of Pottermore, and have experienced the wonder I have theorised for ages.
Might I say that it sounded better in my head? ._.
Sorry to all those who adore the novels to the point that they would literally bow and worship it like a god, but my excitement dropped from all this sky-rocketing hype, to this pin clinking to the polished marble floor.
The sorting hat questions didn't really last very long, and I somehow wish that they gave me more ground to answer. Not only was the actual quiz hard to find, but the whole treasure-finding part of each chapter ruined the scenic mood of each picture for me. I wanted to somehow enjoy the world I was experiencing in all of it's glory and magnificence, but was distracted by that bunch of dried nettles sitting around Hagrid's place.
Also, the potions section of the website disappointed me. Sure, I too fantasised about being a master at everything magical I tried and that ideology crashed and burned, but I found the method to be tedious. It's practically something you'd expect from a Facebook restaurant game where you sit there for a copious amount of time in order to flip just one hamburger. However, the spells practice wasn't all that bad, except for the fact that my computer slowed down, and my clunky old mouse has trouble with even the simplest of incantations.
BUT IN DEFENCE OF THE PAGE, it's only the beta version of the website, so they would of course, need to refine it a bit and upload new curiosities for the fans to enjoy. And, I should be a bit more grateful than I am, since I get to experience it earlier than a whole lot of people, and that I was one of the few who received such an inside view and a privilege to criticise.
The artwork is also well-done, and the web pages are created with such evident care that you couldn't hate it at all. Also, the bonus features of JK Rowling's fantastic vision are worth the find, and to contradict my previous point, the fact that you find them yourselves and investigate each scene leaves such a cherished memento for the avid readers of our time.
So don't get me wrong! I LOVE the new expansion to my fandom knowledge. However, I am worried that the whole thing would seem cheap to me in a couple of months when new things are brought in. Things like SFX and music could be nice editions, but other than that I shall wait a few more days until it is open more to the public.
Wuv,
SSV
